Donkey trekking in Ogliastra

Today you will immerse yourself in the daily life of locals, who have always worked in the countryside, thanks to the experience of trekking in the company of donkeys in the heart of Ogliastra. Both the charcoal burners up until the last century and the Sardinian shepherds up to the present day could not and cannot do without the support of such an indispensable working companion. Along a short stretch of the famous Selvaggio Blu trekking route, you can enjoy an experience suitable for everyone, even children. If children weigh within 40 kg, then they can climb on the backs of the docile donkeys while adults follow on foot and can have the donkeys carry their bags and backpacks. Furthermore, adults will be able to bring them up to speed and empathize with the docile pack animals. You will be completely focused on enjoying the scents and colors of a breathtaking landscape between the crystalline colors of the sea and the rugged Ogliastra mountains, listening to the precious comments and anecdotes of the guide, who will accompany you along the route.

A slow-paced activity in close contact with the donkeys and the uncontaminated and wild nature of Ogliastra to discover the docile, patient and calm character of an animal, which in the collective imagination is identified as foolish and stubborn but which you will discover to be very empathetic, intelligent and autonomous.
The itinerary of historical and naturalistic interest is very easy and especially suitable for children: it is a circular route lasting about a couple of hours which depends on the rhythm dictated by the donkeys. There will be several breaks, including photographic ones, to admire the scenic beauty of the surroundings. At the end of the circuit, you return to the sheepfold where you started and you will help to fix the donkeys. You will learn to remove their saddles and groom them so as to give them relief after the effort. Finally, you will place them in the shade and give them some tasty carrots. At this point you will begin a tasty tasting of typical Ogliastra products with a platter of local cured meats and cheeses, accompanied by carasau bread and good house wine. Finally handmade almond sweets.
